Obituary: December 27, 1890.  Title:  Passed Away  End of LIfe of and Old and Useful Citizen of Hepburn Township.
Samual Ball, whose death occured a few days ago at his home in Hepburn township, was a type of our best and most useful citizen.  He had almost reached the round age of three score and ten years and died within sight of the house where he was born.  He is best known perhaps as the manufacturer of Ball's grain cradles.  He first began their manufacture in 1852 in a small way.  From a humble beginning this business has now grown into a large and thoroughly equipped factory, furnished with approved approved machinery.  Many of the best and most useful devices in the establishment are of his own invention.  For a number of years past this factory has annually turned out thousands of cradles which found a market all over the country, many even being sent beyond the Mississippi.  Mr. Ball, however, served the community and public as well.  He was a member of the school board of Hepburn township eighteen years.  He was always what is known as a good school man, and contributed much to build up the excellent public schools in that township.  During the was he was active in raising the county fund for Hepburn township, and managed the issuing of the bonds by it for that purpose.  He was a man universally liked by his neighbors.  He was just and fair in all his dealings, and liberal in contributing to every enterprise that deserved support.  Always industrious and prudent he amassed considerable wealth and leaves a substantial estate to his family.  His loss will be keenly felt in various ways, but the memory of his kindly manners, his enterprise and wise advise will long survive among those who learned to know him.

Joseph William Ball (Samual, William, John) - Born Nov. 11, 1843 in Logan Station, Lycoming County Pennsylvania.  Married July 23, 1865 to Sarah Jane Neyhart.  Sarah Jane was born in July 1845 and died either Nov. 29, 1906 or a few days earlier.  Her father's name was Eli Neyhart, her mother's name was Julia Grace. Julia Grace was from the Alsace-Lorraine area of France.   Joseph died October 26, 1922 in Auburn, California.  Eli Neyhart died in about October of 1885.  He owned and operated a flour mill in the Lycoming County area.
